Off-road Tips
Exploring Oman with its vast countryside of mountains, desert and wadis is a popular weekend activity. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is almost essential to enjoy this to its fullest. Proper planning for such a trip is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip for all.
Points to consider
- Plan the route to your destination and take maps and books as guidelines. A GPS is a good idea.

- Go with another vehicle - this is most important for your safety.
- Leave a copy of your planned route and expected time of return with a friend. Together with who to notify if you don't return on time.
- Have extra food and water (for you and your car).
- Take extra care when driving on tracks and traversing water.
- Watch out for weather conditions, as sudden storms and flash flooding can occur. If there is even a hint of rain, do not camp or even drive in the bottom of a Wadi.
- Do not be afraid to ask for help or advice from more experienced drivers.
